Celebrating Indian Wedding Traditions: Agni and Barat at The Epping Club

Celebrating Indian Wedding Traditions: Agni and Barat at The Epping Club
At The Epping Club, we understand the importance of preserving and honouring these cherished traditions, which is why we are proud to be one of Sydney's only venues that allows both the Agni and Barat customs to be undertaken.

Indian Wedding Traditions: Agni (Sacred Fire)

One of the most sacred rituals in Indian weddings is the Agni, or sacred fire ceremony. In Hindu weddings, this ritual is known as Saptapadi and involves the couple taking seven steps around the sacred fire, symbolising their vows and commitment to each other. Gujarati weddings refer to this ceremony as the Mangal Phera, where the couple takes four circles around the Agni. Similarly, Jain weddings have their version of this ritual known as Pheras, where the couple takes seven rounds around the fire before sharing their wedding vows.

At The Epping Club, we recognise the significance of the Agni ceremony in Indian weddings and provide a beautiful and sacred space for couples to perform this ritual. Our experienced team of wedding planners works closely with couples to ensure that every aspect of the Agni ceremony is executed flawlessly, from the arrangement of the sacred fire to the coordination of the couple's movements around it. With our attention to detail and dedication to preserving cultural traditions, we ensure that your Agni ceremony is a meaningful and unforgettable experience. Whilst other venues may not allow for this custom to be executed, we are more than happy to work with couples to allow them to have all their important cultural details recognised.

Indian Wedding Traditions: Barat (White Horse)

Another beloved tradition in Hindu weddings is the Barat, or the arrival of the groom on a white decorated horse. This joyful and celebratory procession sees the groom accompanied by his family members, relatives, and friends as they make their way to the wedding venue. The groom's friends and relatives, known as the barati, are welcomed and received by the bride's family upon arrival. The groom sitting proudly upon the decorated white horse, symbolises his readiness to begin a new life with his beloved.

At The Epping Club, we embrace the joy and excitement of the Barat tradition, providing a grand and majestic setting for the groom's arrival. Our team of wedding planners that every detail of the Barat procession is meticulously planned and executed, from the decoration of the white horse to the coordination of the groom's entourage. With our understanding of cultural demands and our commitment to celebrating traditions, we create a magical and unforgettable experience for couples and their families.
